Things to Do – Emerald Lake Model Railway
My father is a bit of a railway fanatic, and I can remember him working on landscaping his model set that, if I recall correctly, ran around the inside perimeter of his shed in my childhood home. It was a most amazing thing, I thought. Perhaps it’s no surprise then, that I was delighted to discover that the largest model railway in the southern hemisphere resides in Cardinia Shire.
With something like 2000 m (yes, TWO KILOMETRES) of track, it’s located in a building about the same size as a 17 square house. There is phenomenal detail in the layout, with stools provided so even the littlest family members can enjoy the display!

Emerald Lake Model Railway is open 7 days a week, from 11am–4pm in summer and 11am–2.30pm in Winter on weekdays, and 11am–4pm weekends and school holidays.
Prices are very reasonable, with children from 3 – 15 years just $4, adults only $7 and Concession $5
Children under 3 are free.
